MikeyD, that's me! Welcome to my web page. I hope you like what's on it. If not, I'm so sorry, but too bad. It's my web page and I can put anything on it I want. Bruce, my computer guru says so.

Navigational Guide

You are on MikeyD's home page.

I've attempted to make this page more accessible to people with a visual impairment since I am visually challenged myself. Heck, let's face it, I'm just plain old blind. Go to Tips for JAWS' Users to see helpful key strokes that make it easier moving around web pages.

Objectives of This Site

I created this site in an effort to have fun. First and foremost it is a hobby for me. It is my hope that you will have as much fun visiting this site as I had making it.

The theme of this site is useable information for visually impaired people. This means the site must be updated frequently. Be sure to return to it often to see what new items have been added.

Who am I

I am MikeyD. Who is that, you ask? I am just an old blind man from the "Show Me State" of Missouri.

I was born in the small town of Bonne Terre, Missouri on June 11, 1947. Now you say that is old. Well, you are right! Just remember, if you have not already joined the senior citizen ranks, you will one day soon. The time will pass faster than you think.

In addition to being blind, I am also on dialysis. What that means, is that I have 4 hours a day in a chair to listen to books , movies, old time radio programs, and TV. That is when I am not dozing. I have to admit, that that chair is mighty comfy, and I have been known to saw a few logs while in it.

Before I lost my eyesight, I liked playing cards and other games. Now, I am limited to playing cards online at allinplay.com. It is a screen reader friendly sight that allows me to play against both visually impaired and sighted individuals. I spend many hours competing against others on this site.

You must be tired of hearing about me now; so I'll quit telling you about myself,. Not! I was just kidding. It is my web site, so I can do what I want.

Horror & Occult

I am not a fan of horror or the occult, but I was married to a real witch for 23 years. She told me so. Who am I to argue with her? She actually went to witch camp for a week once during our marriage and belong to a local coven (or should I say cult?) near our home. I sometimes wonder if I made her mad enough to put a hex on me.

My ex believed in a philosophy that is called Wicca. You can go to Wikipedia's Wicca page to find out what that is. So, you see that she really thought of herself as a witch, a good one to be sure.

My ex-wife and her friends recalled many past lives that they experienced. They were always kings and queens or other high born nobles in those lives, never a lowly peasant or peon. What I want to know is what happen to all of the peasants throughout history? Am I the only peon in this world?

Actually, my ex-wife is a very nice person. I hope she is now very happy in life. She deserves all the happiness this world can give her for putting up with me for 23 years. No doubt, I occasionally got under her skin. Okay, I admit it; I managed to upset her a lot over the years.

That pretty much covers my marriage. Like all marriages, there are good and bad times. Not everything can be perfect in life.

Military History

I was a sailor man way back when, and I don't mean in a past life. Yes, it was the U.S. Navy. I served in the elite submarine force. I had silver dolphins and all to prove it. Heck, they even gave me one of those pretty little white sailor hats.

I volunteered for the navy and began serving my country on May 1, 1968. My enlistment was finally up on January 29, 1974. During that time, I was a reactor operator aboard a nuclear powered fast attack submarine. Two things stand out in my military career.

Yes, I still received an honorable discharge in spite of that small mishap. Now, I am no longer a sailor man.

Naval Duty Stations

The following table charts my naval career for those who are bored and will read anything.

Duty Station Location Year Rank
Great Lakes Illinois 1968 E-3
USS Willis A. Lee (DL-4) Massachusetts 1969 E-4
Naval Reactor School Maryland 1969 E-4
Naval Reactor Training Unit Connecticut 1970 E-4
Submarine School Connecticut 1970 E-4
USS Sturgeon (SSN-637) Connecticut 1970 E-5
Civilian Wisconsin 1974 None
